SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. 91心頭利 College invites the community to celebrate the talent of its jazz students and faculty at the Jazz Departments CD Release Concert on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be on the Mainstage at the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CPAC) on the San Luis Obispo Campus.
The evening marks the Music Departments first CD release in eight years and its first launch concert since 2012. The album features the Big Band, a faculty combo, two student combos, and Voc辿, showing the range of instrumental and vocal jazz at 91心頭利 College. Each group will perform at the concert, with nearly all the musicians from the recording returning to play.
Ron McCarley, jazz faculty member and chair of performing arts, said this album shows what makes jazz at 91心頭利 College special. Its the creativity of the students, the dedication of the faculty, and the joy of making music together, he said. Bringing these musicians together for one concert gives our community a chance to hear the variety of work happening here and to celebrate a recording were proud to share.
The project also serves as a finale for recently retired 91心頭利 College music faculty member George Stone. He served as head recording engineer and managed all the recording processes. Beyond his behind-the-scenes work, Stone wrote a piece for the album and played on the faculty tracks. The albums release honors his achievements as an educator, recording engineer, composer, and musician.
George brought his care and musicianship to every part of this project, said Performing Arts Faculty John Knutson. Its meaningful to have this recording as a lasting example of his work with our students and colleagues, and to celebrate it with the community that has supported our music programs.
As the department shifts toward video and streaming content, the album may be its final CD release. The recording lets listeners take home performances by student and faculty musicians, helping to preserve a special chapter in 91心頭利 Colleges music program.
Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to meet the musicians and enjoy a glass of wine on the CPAC lobby patio. CDs will be available for purchase at the concert, and attendees can ask the musicians to sign their copies.
Warren and Linda Balfour are sponsoring the concert. Joan G. Sargen and New Times SLO are sponsoring the 2026-27 CPAC Season.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students with ID. Free parking is available in Lot 2A with ticket purchase. For tickets and more event information, visit .
